TASK... for staff

Watch the whole video clip of Scott McLeod's presentation by next staff meeting. Get ready to share your thoughts.

NEXT STEPS...

1. Create your own digital portfolio.

The purpose of your portfolio will be to reflect on your ICT journey this year and many more years to follow!!! :)

2. Add your questions to our on-line wall "What questions do you have?" (see a previous post)

Some things to think about...

Should we 'share' our e-portfolios within the wider community?

Let's listen to what Ewen McIntosh thinks....

Staff Meeting #1

What is a digital portfolio?
Why are we using them? The PURPOSE...???

OUR AIM...
Our aim will be for the students to create an electronic record of their learning – reflective, including work samples and written or oral reflections.

Challenges....

1. From my experience the hardest part is encouraging thoughtful reflection in the children. Getting work, photographing work samples and adding text etc is the easy part.
2. Making the most out of the weekly ICT time

3. Integrating digital portfolios into the classroom programme
4. Capturing those 'magic' moments - when children grasp a concept/skill, show success in achieving their goals etc, how do we capture this moment and post (or get children to post it) onto their blogs.

5. learning how to set a blog was my first step. I learnt alongside the children!!! Using the more able children and them encouraging them to teach others was beneficial.

Where to from here?
- How to include the whole school in the process?
- Sharing the purpose of these blogs/portfolios with children.
- Which tool to use? If blogs, how to manage with younger children (passwords etc)
- How to encourage the language of reflection required with the students?
- How to include goal setting?
- Adding feedback from teachers/parents/students.
